Fix Bluetooth Problem on Acer TravelMate

Yesterday, my father-in-law asked me to transfer some mp3 files to his cellphone, W380i. So, I took the companion CD, installed the required driver and application, plugged the USB cable, and connected !

After finishing that task, I wondered if I could do that using Bluetooth since I my Acer TravelMate 3000 series support Bluetooth connection. (Sticker on the back of laptop said this type has Bluetooth module installed). This feature has been available from the first time but I never used the Bluetooth. So, using the same phone, I activated the phone BT and switched BT on in my laptop to pair these devices.

What happen then? Nothing happen, the phone could not find the laptop. I checked the Device Manager and gotcha! I saw the yellow exclamation mark on one of component name Acer Module. I thought it was easy, but it was not.

As standard procedure, I tried to update the driver using internet and I got no luck. I surfed to Acer Driver page, I found nothing. When I emailed to nearest Acer Service Center, they suggested me to do Recovery and I couldn’t do that since it took time and I got deadline. Last step, I spent a few hours to browse the net to find the matched drivers.

Some driver websites offered the required driver but when I tried it, Windows still didn’t recognized the module. Strange but True !

On one of the forum, a member suggested to install BT driver of Aspire 4310 version since I couldn’t found one for my TravelMate. So, I installed the driver and alhamdulillah, Windows XP automagically recognized the Bluetooth module (Broadcom 2045). Wow, what a day!

Even official Acer Support page doesn’t provide driver for my old laptop type anymore. Thanks to the guy in the forum who gave this solution. Now I can use Bluetooth, and that day reminds me to keep exploring the potential features the laptop and experiment with it since it has been there.
