Welcome back!

chrome logoToday, the famous search engine and web applications, Google release their beta version of open source browser called Google Chrome. Here are the summary of this new browser from its official website.

The Background

At Google, we spend much of our time working inside a browser. We search, chat, email and collaborate in a browser. And like all of you, in our spare time, we shop, bank, read news and keep in touch with friends – all using a browser. People are spending an increasing amount of time online, and they’re doing things never imagined when the web first appeared about 15 years ago.

Since we spend so much time online, we began seriously thinking about what kind of browser could exist if you started from scratch and built on the best elements out there. We realized that the web had evolved from mainly simple text pages to rich, interactive applications and that we needed to completely rethink the browser. What we really needed was not just a browser, but also a modern platform for web pages and applications, and that’s what we set out to build.

Features

Google Chrome is a browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, safer, and easier. Some of the key features are :

  • One Box for Everything
  • In Google Chrome, you can get anywhere on the Web with one box. The address bar that sits at the top of the normal Google Chrome window simplifies your Internet experience by doubling as a search box. You can also use it to bookmark websites and stay aware about the security of a website.

  • New Page Tab
  • Every time you open a new tab, you’ll see a visual sampling of your most visited sites, most used search engines, and recently bookmarked pages and closed tabs. Links to website you visit the most, recently closed tabs, recent saved websites and search engine you use often.

  • Application Shortcut
  • Use web apps without opening your browser. Application shortcuts can directly load your favorite online apps and can be placed on your desktop, start menu or quick launch bar.

  • Dynamic Tabs
  • You can drag tabs out of the browser to create new windows, gather multiple tabs into one window or arrange your tabs however you wish — quickly and easily. You also can rearrange tabs, duplicate, move or close.

  • Crash Control
  • Every tab you’re using is run independently in the browser, so if one app crashes it won’t take anything else down. Google keeping each tab in an isolated "sandbox" to prevent one tab from crashing another and provide improved protection from rogue sites. One tab content crash, the others will not affected.

  • Incognito Mode
  • Prevent browser to show up pages you visit in your web history. This mode can be used for private browsing. Webpages that you open and files downloaded while you are incognito won’t be logged in your browsing and download histories; all new cookies are deleted after you close the incognito window. You can browse normally and in incognito mode at the same time by using separate windows.

  • Safe Browsing
  • Google Chrome warns you if you’re about to visit a suspected phishing, malware or otherwise unsafe website.

  • Instant Bookmarks
  • Want to bookmark a web page? Just click the star icon at the left edge of the address bar and you’re done.

  • Instant Settings
  • When you switch to Google Chrome, you can pick up where you left off with all the bookmarks and passwords from your existing browser. By default, Google Chrome copies your browsing history, saved websites, and passwords from your default browser when it installs.

  • Simpler Downloads
  • No intrusive download manager; you see your download’s status at the bottom of your current window. When you download a file from a website, the downloads bar appears at the bottom of the tab where you can monitor the progress of your downloading file. The file button indicates how much time remains for the download. An arrow appears in the tab to signify a download in progress.

Hmmm… it is just my thinking or may be you feel the same. Why do I feel familiar with almost all of the features ? Oh yes ! These features also available on my Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1. :D

For now, I can not give you the comparison with Firefox yet since Google doesn’t provide full installation file of this Chrome. You must download an application that will download the full Chrome for you from the internet.

Download Google Chrome or Windows XP/Vista.

So, is it the time to switch your favorite browser to Google Chrome ? Please share your experience.
