Padang EarthQuake – Donations Needed

   Posted by: Erikson   in ICare

Welcome back!

Life and Death is only separated by a thin line. We never know when the death come to us.

Sumatera Wednesday afternoon, September 30th, 2009 at 17.16 WIB, a magnitude of 7.6 Richter Scale tectonic earthquake rocked West Sumatera, Indonesia. Epicenter located at 00.84 latitude and 99.65 east longitude, with the center located at 57 km northwest of the quake with a depth of 71 km from Pariaman. Padang and Pariaman city were two of the most affected cities and suffered badly by the earthquake.

So far, government reported that until today, there are around 700 people died and thousands wounded. There are about hundreds people still burried under the ruins and thousands lost their home. At Pariaman, 5 villages with a total of 300 villagers were burried by landslide of hills around them which triggered by the earthquake. It’s estimated that no one survives from landslide that burried them for 10 meters deep. The evacuation process still in progress since the locations are isolated by the broken transporation line.

Here are conditions after the earthquake.

Blog Moving Process

   Posted by: Erikson   in Wordpress

Finally, after considering host location, bandwith available and space provided, my blog has its new home now.  Wow, blog transfer process is not as difficult as I thought before. In this case, I use the same domain name and only move the web hosting to another provider.

Steps I used to move my blog from old host to the new one:

1. From the old host:

  • Make a full backup for your blog (including mysql database) in compressed format (*.zip,*.gzip,*.gz) and download to your local harddrive.
  • It’s better to extract the data for easy access.

2. From the new host:

  • After registration on the new host, you will get a temporary address for the new blog.
  • Login to your Control Panel and setup a fresh Wordpress engine.
  • Open your phpmyAdmin, select your new wp database and go to Import menu.
  • Upload your old mysql dump file (*.sql) of the old host from step 1 and click Go.
  • When finished, you already have your blog database moved.
  • Now upload your old blog files (themes, plugins, image upload, etc) under directory wp-content to the new host using FTP or File Manager to the corresponding folder on your new blog directory (eg. all file under wp-content/themes should go to wp-content/themes too).

3. From the old host:

  • If you used email hosting also, don’t forget to download your mail right now.
  • Go to your domain manager and change the DNS to point to your new DNS as your provider gave you.
  • Maybe your blog will not accessible for a while since it will take sometime to propagate your new DNS to the world wide web.

4. From the new host:

  • When your blog has been accessible from your domain name, go to your blog Admin area and configure the blog to your old setting (theme used, plugins installed, etc).
  • If you used email, go to your CPanel and set up some usernames used for email activity, so you won’t lost contact from the world.
  • Your blog has moved to the new host!

5. Done. :D

Unmountable Boot Volume

   Posted by: Erikson   in Tutorial

A few days ago, one of my friend PC got trouble. When she pressed the power button to turn on the PC, Windows XP loading and a few seconds later, it restarted again and again. At first I thought it caused by some kind of virus which show similar symptoms like that. But at second thought, I wasn’t sure about it since the PC has updated antivirus which automatically download the new virus database online from its manufacturer.

The next suspect was hardware failure. I tried to check the BIOS for some abnormalities and I could not find it. I opened the case and tried to remove some devices (RAMs,harddrive) to check whether one of them cause this. But nothing change!

So, what to do next? I tried to restart the PC again and watched the Windows loading process. And bingo! At the end of loading, for a second I saw the bluescreen of death (bsod) showed up quickly and the PC restarted again. I repeated that step until I could see the exact error message displayed on the bsod. Finally, the error said, STOP 0×000000ED UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME. I googled the web and found a solution.

Requirement:

Windows XP CD-ROM

Step by step:

1.Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer. (make sure your BIOS use CD-ROM as 1st boot priority)
2.When the “Welcome to Setup” screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
3.At the command prompt, type chkdsk /r , and then press ENTER.
4.Wait until the process finish and restart your machine.

This may takes a bit longer, but the system should boot back into Windows.
